SUM Car & Motorcycle Insurance Coverage - Why You Need It!

March 22, 2022

“I have full coverage” doesn’t mean much if you’re in a car or motorcycle crash and the other driver is uninsured or underinsured.

SUM Insurance is the best insurance coverage to protect you and your family when injured in a crash.

Call your agent today and demand SUM Insurance Coverage on your car, truck and motorcycle.

At The John Wright Law Firm, we recommend at least $100,000 in SUM Insurance Coverage. But it may also be sold in $250,000, $300,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000 policies.

SUM stands for Supplemental Underinsured Motorist.  In New York State, all insurance companies must offer SUM Coverage to all vehicle and motorcycle owners and drivers.

During the Covid pandemic, many New York drivers reduced their insurance to the legal minimum of $25,000.  If you’re seriously injured in a crash and have excessive medical bills, the other driver’s $25,000 insurance coverage isn’t much.

If you’re injured by a driver who has only $25,000 in insurance coverage and your damages are more than $25,000, SUM coverage is a benefit through your own insurance company.  Your lawyer must understand SUM coverage, know when it applies and how to obtain consent from your SUM insurance company to settle with the negligent driver before pursuing the SUM insurance coverage policy.

If you have questions regarding SUM insurance coverage, how to better insure and protect your family, or are injured in a car, truck or motorcycle crash, call or text Rochester’s Car and Motorcycle Crash Professional and Award-Winning New York State Trial Lawyer John K. Wright, Esq. at (585) 632-2222.  Make the RIGHT choice, call The John WRIGHT Law Firm.
